Experience
I most enjoy teaching reading and reading comprehension, pre-algebra, algebra, and Spanish 1 and 2 but also tutor in essay editing, grammar, and mechanics. What qualifies me to be a tutor? First, I feel accomplished when students tackle something hard. I worked with students while still in high school and college. I've provided group tutoring and mentored 25 "at risk" junior high students in building character. I also provided interactive instruction to kindergartners and first-graders learning English in Costa Rica. As a student, I struggled with reading. It took hours to understand a book. This gave me the ability to help others who struggle and I know how to help them overcome their challenges. My teaching style is adaptive. Each client can therefore overcome their specific problem and each session is as different as the person I'm helping. Sometimes it's visual, other times it's auditory or kinesthetic. I attended the University of Idaho. While there I earned a B.S. in Psychology. A focus on School Psychology gave me skills to be an effective tutor. Having graduated early, I can concentrate on my GRE studies and pursue my MS in Family and Marital Counseling. Otherwise, I love cooking, hiking, watching movies, and playing basketball.
